Scuttle

Due to the height of the 4AGE, it was necessary for me to raise the height of the scuttle front by 1", from 10" to 11". A hardboard template was transferred to a 16g sheet, then stitch welded to a book version of the lower scuttle frame.

Next, a length1" x 1/8" strip was tack welded 1/8" below the top of the firewall. By tacking and then bending, it's quite easy to match the strip to the scuttle shape.

For the next step, I wanted to have the nose cone mounted to preserve the line from the top of the nose cone over the scuttle up to the dash. I used a straight edge to transfer this line to a hardboard template set at an angle to match the dash. Once drawn and cut out, this template is used to shape the 1" x 1/8" strap for the rear of the scuttle, and the same template can be used for the dash.

To mount the scuttle, room has to be made for the steering column. Since the pedal frame will be enclosed, the front firewall of the scuttle can be open. I've left some extra room all around the inside so that I could decide how to finish the scuttle to pedalbox seal later. You can just make it out at the top of the picture, to the left of the clutch pedal spring.

Next is the lower scuttle tube. First step was to add some tabs to hold the dash template, which will also hold the rear scuttle strap in the correct shape. After that, the lower part of the dash was cut to a pleasing size. At the same time, the dash needs to be shaped around the steering column. Using the dash as a guide, I shaped and then welded some 3/4" square tube for the lower member. This goes up over the steering column which is set at it's highest position (the column moves down about 1" on the tilt mounting). V shaped supports are used at either end for this lower member.
